Jim Newman home with the Lord

NewmanOur longtime brother, Pastor James Newman went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2015.

Jim attended Simpson Bible Institute and Seattle Pacific College in Seattle, and married Ramona in August 1950. Working as a journeyman painter, Jim served the Lord in Seattle’s Skid Row Mission, and was a guest vocalist on the New Covenant radio broadcast where Pastor Mitchell would say, “Now we will have a song from smiling Jimmie”.

Jim served as an Assistant Pastor with John Ruhlman Sr. at Eastgate First Baptist Church from 1955 to 1961. Their first full time pastorate was at Bethany Baptist Church in Kenmore, Washington, then Wenatchee First Baptist, Bethel Baptist in Kalispell, Montana, Lake Hazel in Boise Idaho and then Pastor to seniors at Whitney Baptist Church with Darrel Beddoe, Dan Frank and John Duncan Jr. He retired at 80 years old. He moved to Gresham, Oregon for the last 4 years to be near family.

Services will be Saturday, March 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Powellhurst Baptist Church, 3435 SE 112th, Portland, Oregon 97266
